
Crazy Running offers fun running, track and field and conditioning programs for athletes of all ages, starting at 3! Challenging exercise is made fun and age-appropriate. We Play Crazy, Run Hard!
Our one-hour programs are typically one or two days a week for 8 weeks. Athletes can train with us year-round through various conditioning and speed & agility programs: Winter Conditioning and Youth Track & Field, Spring Training, Youth Summer Speedsters and Track & Field, Adult Summer Strength & Speed, Fall Training, Family Training, Team Building & Special Events, and Personal Training. While offerings may vary by location, the fun and fitness stay the same!

Tykes: Fun for Ages 4 and Under
Our Tykes group is all about unleashing energy and having a blast! Designed for little ones aged 4 and under, we focus on fostering coordination, stamina, and focus through engaging and playful activities. Our Crazy Running games are not merely workouts; they are thrilling adventures that inspire children to joyfully embrace movement. Each playful step helps develop essential skills while ensuring your child has a fantastic time. Join us for play, growth, and fun!
Juniors: Fun and Energy for Ages 5 to 7
Welcome to the Juniors group, where fun and energy are the core of our activities! Tailored for kids aged 5 to 7 or in grades K through 2, our JR Crazy Running curriculum emphasizes movement and engagement for a full 60 minutes. We aim to capture the vibrant spirit of our young athletes, shaking off the ordinary and embracing the extraordinary. Our workouts focus on having fun rather than being “crazy tough” or “crazy fast.” Come join us to play, run, and celebrate every moment—because that’s how we Play Crazy, Run Hard!
Young Athletes: Unleashing Inner Superstars Aged 8 to 17
For young athletes aged 8 to 17, we’re dedicated to unlocking the inner superstar with our lively and dynamic group options. Our program not only promotes fitness but also aims to boost confidence and self-esteem, providing holistic benefits that help every participant shine!
- Upperclassmen Group (3rd to 5th Graders / Ages 8 to 14): This group focuses on discovering the joy of running. Participants will engage in goal-setting, determination, and the thrill of race preparation. Activities like sprinting, jumping, and stretching transform sessions into a playground of possibilities that nourish both body and mind. Whether your 8-year-old is seeking more energy outlets or your 14-year-old is clocking a 6-minute mile, everyone finds their rhythm and grows together.
- Teen Group (Ages 13 to 17): This group turns fitness into a social celebration. Imagine a space where running, strength, and mobility exercises set the stage for new friendships and shared victories. It’s the perfect mix of cardio and camaraderie, where getting fit is as enjoyable as it is rewarding.
- Elite Group (Ages 9 to 15): For those with a competitive spirit, the Elite group is where athletic aspirations take flight. We focus on building strength, speed, and coordination, enabling participants to master running techniques and dynamic drills while boosting their confidence and athleticism in an enjoyable atmosphere.
Adult Group: Fun and Energy for All
Our adult programs reflect the same joyful and energetic spirit that defines our youth programs. We provide a variety of activities tailored for adult participants, including road-race specific training and engaging, game-based practices similar to those enjoyed by our kiddos—just with a grown-up twist! Our sessions are designed to break free from the mundane and embrace the extraordinary, all without being overly intense or demanding. It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone, making bold moves, and doing it all with a smile. Join us to push your limits, savor the fun of Play Crazy, Run Hard, and celebrate each workout!
Our Story
Crazy Running was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina out of a need for kids to have highly active programming to keep them healthy and happy. Sports that were available may have left some children waiting on the sidelines for their turn to play. By drawing inspiration from track and field and cross country, engaging Crazy Running games and practices can be enjoyed by individuals of all abilities. The first official program was run in the summer of 2009 at Hanes Park. Over the years, Crazy Running has grown its year-round presence in Winston-Salem, expanded to support athletes of all ages and has reached franchise locations across multiple states.

Donnie & Jessica Cowart

Donnie, a native of Rustburg, VA, is a 2009 graduate of VMI, where he set school records in the indoor mile and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Competing in both cross-country and track, Donnie capped his career at VMI with his 8:44.66 and Division I All-American finish in the steeplechase at the 2009 NCAA Championships. Since graduation, Donnie made nine USATF Outdoor Championship Finals in the steeplechase, as well as the 2012 & 2016 Olympic Trials Finals where he finished 4th & 8th respectively. In 2014 Donnie became the 425th American to break 4 minutes in the mile (3:58.43) and in 2016 won gold for the USA at the Pan American Cross Country 10K Championships. He is currently chasing a sub-2:10 marathon. Despite his serious commitment to his craft, Coach Donnie loves to bring fun energy and enthusiasm to our runners! He and his wife Jessica own and operate Crazy Running Franchising & Crazy Running Winston-Salem.
